Why does my usual bra size not fit the same anymore?

From Expert: Stela

She arrived for her fitting confident in her size, referencing the bra she had purchased previously. It’s something we see often—clients who feel certain they’ve already “figured it out.” But as soon as she tried on a familiar size, it was clear there was more to uncover.

Before even reaching for the measuring tape, the fit told the story. The band sat correctly, but the cups weren’t doing their job—there was subtle compression, a slight flattening that can easily go unnoticed if you’re used to it. It’s one of the most common fit issues: a cup that’s just a touch too small, disguising itself as “good enough.”

We measured to confirm, but more importantly, to walk through the process together. Understanding how sizing works—how band and cup interact, how proportions shift between brands and styles—can be just as valuable as the size itself. What many don’t realize is that a bra size isn’t static. It changes depending on the cut, the fabric, and even the density of your breast tissue.

In her case, the difference came down to volume and distribution. Some styles are more forgiving, while others require a more precise cup fit to properly support and shape. A softer, more compressible breast tissue might settle easily into a smaller cup, while denser tissue needs more room to avoid that subtle but important compression.

When she tried the Victoire in noir, we adjusted slightly—moving from a 36B to a 36C. The change was minimal on paper, but transformative in fit. The cups fully encompassed the tissue without cutting in, the silhouette smoothed, and the overall feel shifted from wearable to effortless. It’s often just one cup size, but it makes all the difference.

She left with a set that not only fit better, but felt better—because it was working with her body, not against it.

Expert Tip: If your bra feels “almost right,” try going up a cup size before changing the band—small adjustments in cup volume can dramatically improve fit without compromising support.
