Last month at Journelle, we launched our annual “Donate Your Delicates” initiative. What began as a way to give back during International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month has carried on as a continued cause. At Journelle, our mission is to create a safe and inspiring space for women to explore the world of intimates and practice self-care. Our hope is to offer the same supportive comfort to women that a good bra can. This has been our intent in launching the “Donate Your Delicates” campaign and partnering with our chosen charity the Urban Resource Institute.
The Urban Resource Institute (URI) is the largest provider of domestic violence shelter services in the United States. They are also a leading provider of shelter services for homeless families. In addition, URI offers a holistic and comprehensive approach to ending domestic violence and homelessness through their innovative programs and outstanding capacity to provide safe housing for over 2,000 individuals a night.
URI works tirelessly to support individuals, families, and communities who are in need and who have been impacted by domestic violence, trauma, poverty, and homelessness – some of whom have lost everything (even bras). Their mission is as stated: “Our mission is to empower individuals, families, and communities, particularly communities of color and other disenfranchised populations, to end cycles of violence, homelessness, poverty, and trauma by increasing safety and resiliency.”
At Journelle, we believe the simple act of donating your new or gently used bra to a woman in need can help increase a sense of safety, security, resiliency, and much needed confidence! Throughout our “Donate Your Delicates” drive, every bra collected will be donated to URI and given to survivors of domestic violence. All donations are accepted in-store only during this time. When you choose to donate your bra, you will receive 15% off your next in-store purchase! Bras must be lightly used or new and should have no major signs of wear including stains, holes, ripped fabric, or similar indications. You may wash the bra and drop it off at your local Journelle store to receive your discount.
If you’re not located near a Journelle store, there are still plenty of ways to help and give back. Visit https://urinyc.org/ to learn more or on social media @uri_nyc.
