Lingerie is what you wear every day.
That, more than anything, is why Journelle exists. Founder Claire Chambers opened the first store on Union Square in December 2007 with a single conviction: that beautiful lingerie shouldn't be reserved for occasions. It belongs to ordinary mornings, ordinary evenings, and the long unremarkable hours in between.
The name reflects that. Journelle is borrowed from the French word journellement — meaning daily.
Almost two decades later we have four boutiques — Union Square, SoHo, the Upper East Side, and Chicago — and the conviction hasn't changed: that what you wear closest to your skin is the most personal decision in your wardrobe, and the one most worth getting right.
A French Name, a New York Address, an Italian Future
In 2019, Journelle was acquired by Guido Campello and Sapna Palep. Guido was raised in the Italian lingerie industry his family built. His grandparents founded Cosabella; he ran it before coming to Journelle. That heritage — three generations of it — is what he brought with him.
Going forward, every new piece in the Journelle Collection is made in Italy. We work with a network of factories across the country — each chosen for what it does best: lace woven in some workshops, cottons and silks cut in others, the finishing handled by ateliers that have specialised in intimates for decades. There is no other country where lingerie is made with the same combination of patience, technique, and quiet pride.
The Fitting Room
We carry the world's most beautiful lingerie houses — Chantelle, Hanky Panky, Eberjey, Wolford, Natori, Simone Perele, La Perla, Fleur of England, and our own Journelle Collection. But what makes a piece of lingerie right is not its label. It is whether it fits.
In every Journelle boutique, there is a fitting room and a fitter. The fitting is unhurried and free. We don't always measure with tape. We watch how a bra sits, how it lifts, where it bites, and we listen. Most women leave wearing a different size from the one they came in with. Many leave wearing one they didn't know existed.
This service isn't new. We have done it the same way since the day Claire opened the doors in 2007.
