Bra Fitting
Size is the new buzzword in lingerie – if we had to bet, we’d say you’ve likely been told you’re wearing the wrong size bra at least once this year already. While size is certainly critical to the comfort and effectiveness of your lingerie, it’s not about a number – it’s about the fit. And just like clothing, bra sizing varies significantly by brand and style. Because we carry up to 70 different brands at any given time, we take pride in helping you make sense of your options and in guiding you to choose the right bras in the right sizes.
In-Store
Journelle provides complimentary bra fitting services on a walk-in basis during normal store hours. Our staff is trained in the art of fitting and equally importantly, highly educated about the differences in sizing between the styles and brands we carry.

If you’ve never bought a brand or style before, please consider emailing our team before you buy so that we can give you a few pointers based on our experience with the bra in our New York store. If you don’t know your size, you can refer to this simple guide and measure yourself at home.
Make sure you’re wearing your best fitting non-padded bra as you follow these steps:
- Step 1:
Find Your Underbust Size - Use a measuring tape to measure around your ribcage directly under your bust. Since you want this measurement to be as small as possible, remember to breathe out first. Round all fractional measurements to the nearest whole number. To find your band size, add four to the underbust measurement if it’s even, and five if it’s odd. For example, an underbust that measures 28” is a 32 band size, while a 29” underbust wears a 34 band size. - Step 2:
Find Your Bust Size - Measure around your bust at the fullest part. Make sure you’re standing straight with your arms at the side as you’re doing this and the measuring tape is parallel with the ground all the way around your back. The tape should be snug, but not digging into you. Round all fractional measurements to the nearest whole number. This is your bust measurement. - Step 3:
Calculate Your Cup Size - To find your cup size, subtract the your underbust measurement from bust measurement. Each inch over represents one cup size. So 1” over is cup A, 2” over is cup B, etc. For example, an underbust size of 28” subtracted from a bust measurement of 32” is 4”, which corresponds to a D cup. Therefore, the bra size is 32D. Et Voila! After this step you should have your bra size.
Please note: This simple method is mostly accurate up to a D cup. Sizing beyond cup D becomes much more varied among brands, especially because European and US brands use different alphabet gradients. Below is a conversion chart for the brands that we currently carry.

We may be experts in sizing, but it always helps to have some information to start with. We recommend a surreptitious look at her lingerie drawer to take note of her bra size (e.g., 36c) and underwear size (e.g., medium). An idea of her dress size is helpful as well if you’re looking for chemises, gowns or robes. If you don’t have access to her lingerie drawer, consider asking her best friend privately. We also maintain private records of each customer’s previous purchases, which allows us to gently suggest sizes and styles that will be most appropriate for women who are in our database.

PLATINUM - The same as SILVER, but with customized, gourmet snacks and wine from famous NYC caterer The Dinner Belle throughout your party. Small per-person fee.
DIAMOND - Create the ultimate event with the addition of chair massages and mini-manicures for your guests, in the sanctuary of our spa-like fitting rooms. Also enjoy a fully customized menu of passed hor d’oeuvres and desserts from The Dinner Belle. Per-person fee.

Policies
Exchanges
Journelle gladly accepts returns of unworn or defective bras and selected sleepwear within one month of purchase, for store credit or exchange. We cannot issue cash or credit card refunds under any circumstances. Out of respect for your safety and everyone’s desire to buy clean, unworn lingerie, please note that we do not take back any products with a crotch, whether purchased in-store or by web order.
To return an item for a credit or exchange, please present us with the item in its original condition with tags attached. For web orders, please ship items via insured courier of your choice to 3 East 17th Street, New York, NY 10003.
If you’d like a different size or style, please include a note on your return invoice stating the item you would like instead. (Because we pride ourselves on offering the newest fashion merchandise all year round, we can’t guarantee the item will be in stock – but we’ll try our best.) Sorry, but we cannot refund original or return shipping costs, or take responsibility for lost merchandise.
Price Adjustments
Journelle gladly honors a one-time price adjustment on full-price merchandise within seven days of the retail purchase or web order ship date if accompanied by the original receipt and tags. Items not purchased at the full price are ineligible for price adjustments.
